FILMS

Damn, so many movies so little time. This year the only movie that was in the best picture category I missed seeing with "Ben buttons", which I still really want to see...

DOUBT spoilers.

We open in a church.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s character from "Happiness" is a priest.
Meryl streep plays a Jewish catholic nun.
We cut to the “our lady of perpetual speeches” catholic school.
A kid acts shifty - DOUBT METER AT 1.
The princess from Enchanted chokes down gristle (It beats working for Disney)
Priest Keggers! Fathers GOTS to get is dRINK ONNN
Then there was some stuff in the class room.
Teachings greatest secrets finally revealed - Keep a framed picture that cast a reflection on your chalk board and you can see behind you!!!
6 or seven speeches.
Long story short Reverend Seymour Hoffman may or may not be a kiddie fiddler (it's like the OJ thing yeah, he did it, probably).

Did I like it? Well I wasn't sorry I saw it. The theatrical origins of the piece were painfully apparent.

FROST/NIXON spoilers

WOOO HOOO!
Hey! Ron Howard! Remember "the DiCrappy code" and "How Warners screwed a beloved children’s classic about Christmas" - Well I don't any more. I will call this movie your atonement... I fucking LOVED this movie. It had me completely riveted and galvanised and other things you would do to a shed. In the words of David Stratton "I would fuck this movie". The premise is in the title if you haven't seen it, go download a torrent and just enjoy this fucker.

MILK

If you think about the last few van saint movies the characters are there but they don't exactly scream with charisma (Usually out of pain). Now that Gus van saint has this character of Harvey milk and he's able to have this thing live. Which is great. Performances all round were great, but my big claps going to Josh Brolin. This guy is having a resurrection of extraordinary magnitude. Do you think brolin and Robert Downey Jr have hung out in bar thought about the mid to late 90's and said "Phew, That was close."

The reader.

This movie creeps up on you. Sits on your face. Wriggles.

Slumdog Millionaire - a Haiku

Slumdog millionaire
Hey! That was five syllables!
What are the odds huh?

ALTERNATIVE ENDING => Yes it was very good.

Moving away from the awards season - "Easy Virtue", from the guy who made Pricilla and welcome to whoop whoop (which was a movie I’ve always been fond of). Fucking good. It's a little gem of a movie. I left feeling extremely satisfied.

Colin stop haunting me.

Thus spake GodZilla

Hey hey,

Watchmen - saw it twice - really liked it.
Friday 13th remake - seeing tonight, tix were fuve bucks :)

Need new job, something that at least mildly sets me on fire - at work typing this from the small bay of computers that have proxy access... funny that I'm supporting the net, but don't have access.... oh well such is time and life.
The damn thing is that optus (despite how much i bitch about my job) are a pretty good employer and they do pay a good salary... so if i wanted a new job I'd first need to find one that pays equal to or more than my current pay. Till then at not like i'm going to open my wrist over it - and it's better than being unemployed.

The brain she squeaks.

Wrote some new additions to my musical today - a pop ballad in the midst of comatose fucking. I am rock hard.

I really must change this icon of myself to better reflect the man i am today... Basically the same but with red hair and about 10kgs heaver. ar ar ar ar... I may have to pussy up and join the work gym....

I love you all and hope you will forgive me

Almost a year since picking up this thing.

Dear Livejournal,

Sorry for treating you so badly lately.

To everyone else,

well I've almost completely hit the happy quagmire of life.
Things with Phil are great, I consider him my husband.
When we were in Mexico we bought rings which we always wear and then went to a bar and had beer (and got some tittys rubbed in our faces - by we I mean Phil :P ) My Texan sister in law (a fucking preachers daughter) wants us to have a ceremony (I assume so she can do keg stands ;) ).

Phil and I are looking for a place to buy since it's cheaper than renting. Our financial adviser is pretty on the ball which is great... will update with more details about this venture soon.

I still work for Optus... tec support. It kills me a little inside because of my innate desire to create, but it pays the bills.

I wrote a full length musical... Was pretty proud of that. Also I had a short play called "Peggy's free will" staged during a festival which I’m insanely proud of.

Any way let’s pretend this is like the new series of desperate housewives (not that I watch it, but I’ve heard)

We jump forward a year, I start writing banal observations and posting shitty clips with no pretence hanging over my head...

Anyway, this could all ebb away. I might just post another couple of times and flat line again... I don't know, but I do know this one thing

AT LEAST THIS IS NOT FUCKING FACEBOOK!

Hugs and kisses to the lepers,

This is our last night in Aneheim. We spent today in hollywood, and Monday in Tijuana Mexico. Tomorrow we're driving up to San Fran for a couple of days then fly to Vegas. Wanted to post some pics from Tokyo, but the free internet in this hotel (super 8) SUCKS ..
After vegas we're road tripping from houston TX to Atlanta via new orleans and Alabama. then finally new york.

Life Up - entries suffer

iT'S NOT THAT i'M AVOIDING lj IT JUT SEEMS THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING ELSE TO DO .. like switch caps off. so it's not an avoidance thing. I'm stiil writing - dark christianity with a rounch of burlesque.. you know shit i dig - 50 pages in and have pre plotted the whole thing so i'm pretty pleased with myself even though i do have a tendency to make the dialog a little ham fisted... Any way i;m getting off point. Actually to get off a point it would need to imply that i have one..

(no subject)

Lets all jump on the wayback machine and go back 3 days.... Merry December day!

I guess in reality i had christmas on Sunday... christmas lunch with Mum, dad, will, nanna, aunt, uncle, me and Phil. as is my mothers standard rule - invite 6 cook for 16.

My brother Will was a bit panicked about the fact nanna would be there and he didn't buy her a gift. So we went up to the street shop just up the road from mum and while i was browsing Do-it-yourself Will kits. My brother had folked over cash for a bag - which we couldn't bring ourselves to give to nanna as it was the (and i'm quoting here) flippin uglyest bag ever.
My bro is too sweet for his own good.

Phil seemed a bit overwhelmed by my family, but said he enjoyed himself.

I also need to say that i love my mum like crazy - she went and bought gifts for Phil and Mima so when we were opening presents they wouldn't be left out (although i picked up for them too) ... and nice stuff too.

My brother (once again being the embodiment of awesome) gave me and Phil free passes to bridgeclimb and a borders gift card (so he also by proxy got me a new molskine notebook - a pen - Alice sebolds follow up to the lovley bones the name of which escapes me now - Roger ebert's Your movie SUCKS and Fast food nation) , and (re: the bridgeclimb) even though while i was working there i did a few climbs myself, i know that phil hasn't and it's something to look forward to..

Ahh also - trip to states has been pushed briefly back to April. which is actually pretty good as i can get about 4 weeks off of work instead of the initial 3...

Need to cut this short as phil is nudging me to let me know we have to head off.

I as a boy, I believed the saying the cure for pain was love,

Matt

Here's some pictures

So yeah

Phil's in the lounge playing the guitar hero that I got him for christmas. He's so cute rocking out to the fake crowd.
(remember south park "Listen to that video audience - they love you")

I tell you what it is sweltering today. Figures that yesterday i was complaining that summer so far didn't have any "HOT" days. My face is melting.

Billy elliot was fucking brilliant - the staging was worth admission alone. and the kid who played billy was V/Good.

Oh yeah i got my learners again. drivers beware.

Keep sending those checks in folks - make 'em out to cash.

See this is why fish scare the shit out of me.

I have a mild phobia of living fish... Small gold fish i'm ok with - but the big mother fuckers i can't stand dead or alive.... Fish are fucking freaky.

I also shaved my hair into a mohawk... I like it.

Phils taking me to see the billy elliot musical tommorow. I'm looking forward to it.

Ok going to take a nap so i can be some what awake when Phil gets home- (6am starts suck dog balls)

Oh, in other news the trip to states is going ahead should be for 3 weeks in feb...

Here is how it's sort of likely to go. This is pencil NOT ink.

Start at LAX - do touristy stuff in Cali for a couple of days then drive to San francisco. Get flight to Vegas (see penn and teller), then texas, new orleans, and new york. Maybe canada as well if we have the time/money.

Getting stuff together for my Pass port - Fun when I don't have a birth certificate and my expired licence is in 4 little pieces after i sat on it.
But hey, Good times.

See you when camp is over, the cookies were AWESOME,

Matt

P.s Rogue *half a star - this movie started ok then took a left turn into shitty town at about the half way point. Not scary - not thrilling - Not even funny. SHIT MOVIE. Phil and I were so appauld at how bad the movie is we had no qualms in sneaking into another cinema to see "the assasination of Jessie James by that coward robert ford" - 4 stars)
